How's everything going for you on this tour ?

Jarboe: Oh it's been really good ! It's been fantastic ! Every single audience has been warm, positive, completely into it. It's been amazing ! It's been absolutely positive. This was the very first show with anyone talking. For all of the other shows, in all the other cities of Europe, you could drop a pin. They were so respectful. So this is a new experience for us.

So the best you could have I guess...

Jarboe: No ! It makes me feel quite violent and angry but I'm doing my best to deal with it. Because to me it's so disrespectful. I'd never do that as an audience. But that's me, I was well-raised.

It's surprising to see you perform with a pianist...

Jarboe: We've toured many times together. We toured with Blixa Bargeld and performed with him this way. I've been working with Renee off and on for over a decade. That's the essence of me. Anyone who knows my career knows that I have multiple voices. I sang jazz in college, I was in choirs prior to that, I can do heavy metal, I can do experimental screaming, there's very little I can't do. I probably can't do operatic but everything else I can do. That's what I do. I'm eccentric and eclectic.

You collaborated with many other artists during your career...

Jarboe: Collaborations yes. That's why, because of my stretch. There's all these different artists who could work with me because of the fact that I'm not limited to a particular approach.

Is there anyone you'd like to work with that you've not worked with yet ?

Jarboe: Everyone I haven't worked with ! (laughter) Everyone would be interesting for me. I can't think of anyone I wouldn't want to work with. It would all be interesting, it would all be fun.

Most of the time you tour it's with extreme metal bands. How come ?

Jarboe: Because I like it ! I love it. It's part of me. It's part of what I do.

with two metal guitar players as my band but I'm not sure yet. We're gonna know this week. The plan was to go on tour with a bunch of metal bands as soon as I get home from this.
In addition to that, I started writing memoirs about my life and moving away from my home and I'm gonna travel. I'm going to the Colorado Desert, I'm going to Iceland, just kinda travel around. And it's all gonna be to help me clear my mind and so I can focus on writing.

Is there anything else you'd like to say ?

Jarboe: Renee and I have worked on and off for about eleven years. We've done festivals together. We've done some things in Europe. We did a show in Sevilla, we did the Wave-Gotik-Treffen and we toured the West Coast and the East Coast together. She's classicaly trained on harp, piano and...
Renee: Voice. I've been working hard to beat the classical training on my voice.
Jarboe: She has her own project, it's quite good. It's called Envie. The opening song tonight was Renee's song. People seem really surprised and I'm like "Why ?" We've been working together for a very long time.
Renee: Because you've been doing metal. They haven't seen you do this with me. I've been doing this with you a little bit here but mostly in the States.
