Interview

DORDEDUH

Mardi 16 octobre 2012

How are you doing ? How is the tour going for you ?

Edmond Karban : Pretty ok I guess. Everything's ok.

How is it going with the other bands ?

E.K. : It's very nice. The atmopshere in the bus is pretty cool. Nearly all of them are professional musicians and I think at a certain level you don't have this kind of self-importance problems anymore so everybody is working together and we have quite a nice vibe around.

Your first album, Dar De Duh, was released this week. How come it took so long ?

E.K. : There are actually many issues about this album. First of all we're not really a band who's composing an album in a half year and I think we will never be that kind of band. We prefer to work and search for perfection. We try to accomplish as much as we can in order to fulfill what we aim for the album. We worked quite a lot. And then also of course there are always personal issues. Lately nearly everyone could say the personal life, even social and financially, is not the best. Being in Romania is not that easy at the moment. There was a time when I had three jobs. I'm not always able to put 100% in the music. It's also surviving.

Are you happy with the result ?

E.K. : Yes, pretty much. We did a video, we put it on Youtube and we never expected such a big response. It seems that people know more about our band than we thought. We pretty much started everything from the beginning after twenty years of being in music. We thought it would be a bit more difficult to get people's attention. But it works pretty well for us so I'm quite happy about it.

About that video, I was surprised you picked a quiet song without guitars for your first videoclip. Why did you make that choice which wasn't the most obvious ?

E.K. : The thing is more about the message of the video. I don't know the English word for Dojana. Dojana means for example a grandfather who does this sign to his grandchild. It's when somebody did something bad and you want to tell him he should take care. I think it's a very actual message. The song is about being vertical, doing things correctly in the world and have a good intention towards things. We really wanted this to be our footprint for the new beginning. Next week we will put out a video for a metal song. It had to be a surprise but it will be a live recording from Brutal Assault. And then maybe another video before the end of the year.

That gig at Brutal Assault was last year in 2011. How come you put out the video just now ?

E.K. : We prepared it like that. We want to give the audience the opportunity to see that we are a live band, that we enjoy playing live and that we can transpose all the instruments you hear on the album. We think the studio recording shouldn't be very different from what we do live. And we are pretty much able to transpose that in a live performance. It was the aim to show that we are a live band. People definitely get a better clue, they get the emanation of the band when they see it live and they experience what we want to transmit.

Is there anything else you'd like to share ?

E.K. : I don't know, I didn't prepare anything. I think what would be nice to share with people is our general message which encourages people to take things authentically. The first thing you take anthentically is yourself. To be clean with yourself and to take yourself seriously. I'm not talking about purity of anything like that because sometimes, when you take a nice look inside yourself with honesty, you find pretty dark things. Also those things should be admitted and that's being honest with yourself and with the world around you. That's a nice tribute to life.
