How is the tour going ?

David : Great !
Sacha : Yeah. This is only the third show but the show in Rotterdam last night was great. And in Essen, in Germany, it was good too.
David : So far, so good.

No phones, no tour manager, that's quite unusual. How come ?

David : Financial restrictions I guess.
Sacha : I mean we could do it ourselves, there's no real reason to have a tour manager for a tour of this scale. There's not much we can't handle ourselves. We kind of just come over and do it.
David : There's not too much managing to go on. We get here, all the microphones work, the power works, everything should work just fine.

How would you describe the kind of music you play to someone who hasn't heard of you before ?

David : Really really good ! The best music ever made in history of music.
Sacha : I just say progressive rock when somebody asks.
David : So we disagree.
Sacha : Yeah, we don't agree on that. I don't think it's really good, I just think it's progressive rock.
David : Yeah, it's not really that good actually, it's ok.

Your last album was released a few weeks ago. How was it received ?

Sacha : Seems really positive so far.
David : Yeah, most of them were good.
Sacha : There's always a couple of people who are like angry.
David : It's like they're mad at us personally.
Sacha : But we can't please everybody, not that we're trying to either.
David : That's why we don't please everybody, maybe we should try harder.
Sacha : But overall, it's been very good. At least in the States, I guess in Europe too. I haven't really read much press in Europe, just because it's always in a different language that I don't understand so... I don't really know, but I would assume it's fine, judging from the people who come to the shows. They seem to... I mean they come to see the show so there are some people who like it.
David : Some people like it, it's good.

I think it's the first time you tour Europe as headliner. What's the difference for you ?

David : It's our first headlining tour ever. We've never done like a full headlining tour before. It's... I don't know, how is it different ?
Sacha : We play longer...
David : That's cool, yeah.
Sacha : And we get more money. (laughs) No, I mean, we weren't necessarily planning on doing a headliner tour, but we're doing the Roadburn festival, and it's just a matter of needing to play shows around that. So we just ended up putting this package together with bands that we knew who were also playing Roadburn, The Atlas Moth

. It just sort of happened that we ended up doing a headliner tour.

Did you plan anything special for Roadburn ?

Sacha : We're just gonna play a set with songs from pretty much all our releases.
David : Yes, it will be special.

You've been around for almost ten years...

Sacha : Almost, coming up on ten. I guess this would be the ninth year. Later this year, it will be the ninth year.

What were the ups and downs ? Any specific memories you could share ?

David : I think in general it's been a good, slow, steady kind of fame. When we started, we would just play for nobody and sleep on kitchen floors, lose a whole lot of money and then we got those really nice opportunities to do some great tours with some great bands and as long as we can continue to get along with each other and write music, we're just gonna keep doing it and see how long we can get away with it.
Sacha : The slow built kind of has been good. Because of that, I guess we've stayed motivated. It only gets a bit easier as time goes on. I feel like we haven't peaked. We're still not very popular.
David : But we're more popular than we were when we started.
Sacha : Yeah. It's been fun. We haven't burnt ourselves out basically.
David : We still like each other.

What are your plans after this tour ?

Sacha : We do a headliner tour in the U.S. and in Canada in June, which will be our first headliner tour over there. And then some more stuff is in the works too.
David : Yeah, just wait and see what unfolds, whatever comes our way. We just wanna tour a lot more, as much as possible and continue to play music anywhere where people care enough to have us come to their city and play, we'll be there.

Where would you like to play ? Is there any place where you really like playing ?

Both at the same time : Australia !
Sacha : We haven't been there yet. We'll probably go there this year I think. I wanna go back to India too. I'd like to go to Asia, but nobody has ever written to us from over there.
David : I hear it's beautiful this time of the year, over there in Asia.
Sacha : Just the whole continent is beautiful this time of the year.
David : Yeah, if you've seen one place there, you've seen them all in Asia. It's not a very big place. (laughs)
Sacha : There's probably not enough people.
David : Right, that's the problem. We would go to Asia but there's just not enough people.
Sacha : Get more people, Asia, and then talk to us. (laughs)

Is there anything else you'd like to say ?

David : Buy our albums and listen to our music and buy us a beer.
Sacha : The beer is all gone already.
David : Yeah, the beer for the whole tour is already gone. (laughs)
