Interview

BLUES PILLS

Lundi 26 août 2013

How are you doing ? Did you just arrive here ?

Cory Berry : We were here yesterday.

Are you currently on tour ?

Zack Anderson : Yes, we had two shows in Germany and three in Poland so far.

You signed to Nuclear Blast a few days ago. It's quite surprising, given that you never released an album.

Elin Larsson : Yes, it was kind of a surprise for us too ! (laughs)

So how did that happen ? How did you get in touch with them ?

Z.A. : It just started from sending an email actually. That was the first contact we made and then they responded and liked the band. So then we were in touch for quite a while, they were watching what we were doing. A few months ago, we toured in Germany so they came to see us play. That's when they saw us live that they gave us an offer which we signed.

Are you preparing a first album ?

Z.A. : Yeah. Actually when we get back from this tour, right away we're going to be starting to record the album.
Dorian Sorriaux : But we're going to release a new EP before, in October. It's called Devil Man.
Z.A. : It's a new version of the song Devil Man because Nuclear Blast liked it I suppose so they wanted that, and then three new songs which haven't been released.

Are you playing these songs live already ?

Z.A. : Yes, we're going to play them today.

Let's go back to the beginning of the band. You and Cory played together in Radio Moscow

, how did you get in touch with Elin and Dorian ?

Z.A. : Me and Cory met Dorian in France. We were touring and we saw him play. He was so young and so good, we were just blown away ! We stayed in touch.

Dorian, what band did you play in ?

D.S. : Oh it was my own project in France. After that we kept talking on Facebook.
Z.A. : But it wasn't right away. We've been friends on Facebook for a couple of years before we formed Blues Pills

. Then we met Elin.
E.L. : In America. I was there for like six months or something.
Z.A. : Yeah, we were living in California at the time and we started playing music with her. When we heard her voice, we started writing some songs together.
E.L. : At that time, everything was just for fun. I never thought it would end like this.
Z.A. : We didn't see it as a serious band at that point. We were just having some fun. It was when we recorded a few demos and put them on Youtube that we started to get people interested in the band. A Spanish booker wanted to book a tour in Spain and Crusher Records in Sweden was interested to release an EP and that's when we started to take it more seriously. We got in touch with Dorian because we didn't have a guitar player really so we knew we needed to find one.
E.L. : THE guitar player from Blues Pills

.
Z.A. : He was the first person we thought about because we remembered how good he was when we saw him.

Do you still live in France ?

D.S. : No, we all live in Sweden, we all moved there to be together.
Z.A. : We all live in one apartment in Sweden. (laughs) So it's like a family band.

So in about a year, you started playing, you played Roadburn and you signed on Nuclear Blast. What's next ?

Z.A. : Who knows ? (laughs) We didn't even expect all this so...
But we're really looking forward to the release of our album on Nuclear Blast.
E.L. : Yeah, we're really looking forward to recording it as well. We are going to do it all analog and we are going to be in a real studio.
Z.A. : We're excited because we're going to be working with same producer who produced Graveyard

through Europe. That came sort of hand in hand with the Nuclear Blast signing. We got on that tour with both bands since they're both on Nuclear Blast as well. That's a good opportunity and it's right after our EP will come out. It's a good promotion for the EP.

Do you have any last words ?

Z.A. : Thanks for interviewing us and being interested in the band !
E.L. : Yeah, thank you ! Merci !
