How was the gig today ?

Laura Pleasants : It was fun.

And how was it at Ieperfest in Belgium yesterday ?

L.P. : It was also fun. It was much harder yesterday.

Why is that ?

L.P. : It was just hot, it was super hot yesterday. We played earlier and the sound was just "krrrrr" and I was just sweating. It was fun though. It's much cooler here.

You tour Europe a lot, like twice a year. How come ?

L.P. : We won't be back for at least a year, a year and a half because we'll write a new record. But we like Europe. Shit I wanna move here ! Some of that is circumstance and some of it is that we've just worked it over here more. It's a little bit of both.

So you tour more here than in the States...

L.P. : In recent years, yes, like in the past three years.

Doesn't that get a little difficult to handle with your private lives ?

L.P. : Yeah ! I mean doing what we do and you can ask any band that's doing what we do, travelling a lot, touring, whether you're a big band or a small band, it affects your personal life. Our life is very different than a normal person's life because we're gone all the time. So yes, that affects things. It's like a double-edged sword.

Can you tell me more about the new album ? Is there any material already composed ?

L.P. : Yes, we do have some material composed already. We've been putting together what we're calling a vault record, with B-sides that were never released, cover songs that were never released and a new song. It's like a collection, a mixtape. We're getting that together and it will be out soon. And then I imagine as soon as we get home from this, we'll get back to practising and getting the album together to record.

And how long do you think that will take ?

L.P. : Hopefully we'll get it recorded by the winter so that it can come out in the spring. That's if we're happy with it so we'll see. That's the plan.

Any other future plans ?

L.P. : Currently just put out this other record, this vault record, and then we've got these re-issues of our second and third record that just came out on vinyl, a remastered version of To Walk a Middle Course and a remixed and remastered version of Time Will Fuse Its Worth with new artwork. That recently came out on Alternative Tentacles, just the vinyl because they'd been out of print for several years. And then we'll record the new album. We're busy.
